“Break the Silence” is MOSCTHA-USA’s annual fundraising event. It takes place in December, as this is the month in which MOSCTHA-USA became an active organization in the United States. The main goal of the event continues to be one of the main goals of the organization: the sensitization of the American public about the issues faced by the communities MOSCTHA works with on the ground. Additionally, the event aims at increasing the funding for all MOSCTHA Haiti/DR projects and programs while strengthening MOSCTHA-USA’s presence in the US.
Every year, the organization invites prominent community leaders of the Dominican Republic and Haiti as keynote speakers to raise awareness of the struggle many underrepresented communities face in these two countries. One of the important figures that has presided “Break the Silence” is Hon. Edwin Paraison, Minister at Ministère des Haïtiens Vivant a l' Etranger (MHAVE). Mr. Paraison has been a member of the Haitian Diaspora in the Dominican Republic since 1983. He served his country at different levels for nine consecutive years, including as Consul General in the Dominican Republic in 2004.
With its long history working in healthcare, MOSCTHA’s goal this year is to furnish a health clinic recently built in Petit-Goave, a town close to the epicenter of the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010. This new health clinic will be the sister clinic to the one MOSCTHA runs in Santo Domingo. To support this endeavor, during the event MOSCTHA will have a silent auction for hospital equipment, as well as Haitian arts and crafts that you will be able to bid on.
