Most importantly, each Team SuperSibs! member will complete this experience with a feeling of accomplishment. Meeting the challenge of walking or running a half marathon and making a positive difference in the lives of children whose brothers and sisters have cancer.
ENERGY TO KEEP GOING: ENERGIZER BUNNY SPONSORS TEAM SUPERSIBS! IN CHICAGO DISTANCE CLASSIC
RUNNERS RAISE MONEY TO SUPPORT SIBLINGS OF CHILDREN WITH CANCER
Team SuperSibs! has a new member this year – the Energizer Bunny! SuperSibs!, a national nonprofit organization that supports the brothers and sisters of children with cancer, welcomes Energizer as the official sponsor of their 2008 team in the Chicago Distance Classic on August 10, 2008.
The organization’s relationship with Energizer Holdings Inc. began in 2007 when SuperSibs! Founder and Executive Director Melanie Goldish was inducted into the Energizer® Keep Going® Hall of Fame in St. Louis. The Energizer® Keep Going® Hall of Fame is a way to celebrate everyday people with the same unstoppable qualities embodied by the Energizer Bunny®.
The Energizer Bunny®, himself, will be present at the starting line of the annual half marathon to encourage participants to Keep Going®. Regarded as one of the fastest growing races in Chicago, the Chicago Distance Classic Half Marathon presented by Bank of America and hosts over 12,000 runners and is a perfectly timed 'training run' for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon or other fall marathons.
Team SuperSibs! coaches, Lu Brigham and Stacy Macri, have been gearing up the team with Chicago area training sessions and practice runs. Those team members out of state have also received continued customized training support through e-mail and teleconference meetings. “Each Team SuperSibs! member will complete this experience with a feeling of accomplishment,” said SuperSibs! Director of Development Suzanne Skala. “By meeting the challenge of walking or running a half marathon, they are making a positive difference in the lives of children whose brothers and sisters have cancer.” Last year, Team SuperSibs! raised over $50,000 for SuperSibs!. This year, they hope to beat that total.
SuperSibs! is a nonprofit organization bringing ongoing comfort, recognition and support to children with brothers and sisters who have cancer. SuperSibs! helps these siblings to redefine the cancer experience to use these life lessons for strength, courage and hope as they move into the future. No longer are these "shadow survivors" forgotten, and alone as they battle feelings of fear, insignificance, guilt, helplessness, anger and grief. Visit www.supersibs.org for more information.
